CRS Web site banner
The CRS Team wishes the best for the graduating class of 2012.
During the commencement exercises, the Oblation dons the unique graduation garb of the University: the Sablay. The UP Sablay is the official academic costume of the University of the Philippines. The official colors of the University, maroon and green, were used in the sablay. Yellow gold, which stands for the high standards of values and excellence, was also used. The indigenous letters originating from the indigenous alphabet called baybayin or katitikan are equivalent to the Roman letters “U” and “P”. The curvilinear design called ukkil or ukit, which resembles a sprouting plant, signifies life. The geometric designs (in zigzag and diamond patterns) are common design elements gracing the attires and functional objects of indigenous peoples from Batanes to Tawi-tawi. Arranged continuously and rhythmically, these geometric designs highlight the diverse cultural communities in the Philippines and the University’s pursuit of knowledge, cultural enrichment, and scientific advancement.
In the weeks leading to the commencement exercises, University Avenue is decorated with sunflowers that are anticipated by the graduating class as a perfect photo opportunity.

Beginning April 2012, some special events celebrated by the UP Diliman community will be featured on the banner of the Web site. If you have any recommended events or celebrations you want to have considered for this feature, please write to the CRSRS Section at the Office of the University Registrar. If approved, the CRS team may also ask you to provide relevant images for the banner and a short blurb for this section.
